INTRO TO ARCH1101

OWN PAINTING

This is an oil painting I painted a few years ago. It wasn't an assignment, just something I did in my free time. It took a few months to complete. The painting is pretty self-explanatory, an organization of flowers and objects on a table. This painting was challenging because of the many colors to make the objects realistic. I played around with the colors to get it right. I enjoy all the different types of drawing and painting, but I enjoy oil painting in particular because of the way you can add layers onto the image and change the effect it produces. And if I mess up somewhere I could either wait for it to dry or 'scratch' it off and then cover it. It has been a while since I have painted but I think I still remember how.

INSPIRATION TO BECOME AN ARCHITECT

This is a picture of The National Aquatics Center and Stadium of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. These structures have inspired me to become an architect because they remind me of how buildings can be a piece of art. They are very unique and unexpected designs. One is a bird’s nest, and the other a water cube. The blend between the nature theme and the modern design is a beauty. More importantly, it reminded me of how much I use to enjoy designing and building models. Last year I ended up applying for Engineering and Commerce and through finding how much I didn’t enjoy it, I applied for an internship at an architect company to learn what architecture was all about. I got to help them build physical models as well as the Revit models. This was a life changing experience and I’m really happy I made the change over. I am really looking forward to designing something as monumental as these structures one day.

PHOTO OF SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL

This is a photo of the sky. It is very basic but still a beauty. Everyone has lied on the grass and looked up into the sky trying to figure out what the clouds look like. It is fun and is amazing what shapes you see them form. When I look at this photo I feel comfortable and peaceful. The sky is something that has been with us for centuries, and has never left us. It feels as if it protects us, which can be physically symbolized from the U shaped clouds, as if it is hugging us. The texture and contrast of the clouds is really soft so it doesn’t feel harmful making us feel secure. The blue sky makes the land and us feel really small. But it is also a treasure, especially when you cannot see it in the polluted countries. Nature is what gave us life, and so we need to protect it just like it shields us.
